Cooking my Nan's dinners: chicken soup

Watch me cook one of my favourite dinners growing up: my Nan's chicken soup

Cooking is one of the nicest ways to cherish and share your family history.

Back in autumn, I posted a video making my Nan’s potato hash — or ‘tater ash’ as we call it here in Manchester. It’s a simple, comforting dinner that carries a lot of memories for me.

Anyway, I thought I’d follow it up by showing you how I cook another of my Nan’s simple classics — chicken soup.

It’s the kind of dinner she’d make without any fuss — warming, nourishing and exactly what you need on a cold winter’s day.

You can also read about the Manchester dinner hour and what it means to me in a post I wrote last winter:

The Dinner Hour

Growing up in Manchester, we always called the midday meal dinner.

Making cookery films isn’t my usual format — I’m no Jamie Oliver obviously — so it’d be good to hear what you think in the comments.

And if you make Nan’s chicken soup, do post a photo of the results too. I hope you enjoy it.

P.S. If you’re a paid subscriber, you can watch my earlier tater ash video below…
