Saturday’s Manchester History Club newsletter explored the story of the sinking of the Emma on the River Irwell in 1828 — a disaster that has all but been forgotten.

Since writing it I’ve been digging a bit deeper in the archives and have found the names of 34 of the people from Manchester and Salford who died that day and some of their resting places.
This is their story.
