The Manchester History Club is in the top 20 rising history newsletters on Substack
Telling the story of Manchester and its people one letter at a time
I was chuffed to get a note from the good people at Substack the other day to say The Manchester History Club has made it into the top 20 rising history newsletters on the platform.
So I just wanted to say a big thank you for reading this rather niche letter that I write most weeks about my home town. If it wasn’t for your support, I wouldn’t be able to continue to write it.
Two years ago, just before I turned 50, I took the difficult decision to leave behind a 25-year career in newspaper journalism to follow my passion of writing about and sharing Mancheter’s history.
Since then I’ve been writing this newsletter as well as leading walking tours in Angel Meadow, working as the local history leader for a lovely group of older people at Burnage Library and doing genealogy research for families with Mancunian heritage.
You can see how happy I was to get to the end of my first history tour guiding season last autumn. ⬇️
As of today, you’re one of 1,678 people who read the letter each week.
The most popular story since I started writing The Manchester History Club has been the one I wrote in February that included a recipe for my nan’s potato and cow heel hash.
Your support in reading the newsletter has really helped me to feel I’m on the right path with what I’m doing — and I couldn’t be more grateful.
So, a very big thank you. 👏🏼
